Obituary for Kevin Jordan Scruggs

Kevin Jordan Scruggs
SCRUGGS, KEVIN JORDAN
Born April 30, 1987 in Vancouver, BC
Passed away November 30, 2017 in Calgary, AB

It is with profound sorrow we announce the passing of our eldest son. Kevin had a loving and generous soul. He lived life at full throttle and drama was his middle name. His youthful escapades brought smiles, such as the time he and his friend got stuck in some mud at the base of the cliffs near our home in Varsity. Leaving his pants behind in the mud, he ran to a nearby house (in his underwear), and the fire department was enlisted to pull out his friend. This one even made the newspaper.

As a young adult Kevin took welding at SAIT and loved it. He was able to work at his trade on and off and always wanted to have his own welding truck. This was just one of Kevin’s many dreams for his future.

Sadly, the roller coaster ride of addiction, recovery, and relapse overpowered his life for the past twelve years. “I constantly have the best intentions and they always go sideways.” His struggle was hard to witness and although this was neither his, nor our vision for his life, or the ending we hoped for, Kevin is now at peace and not struggling any longer. We praise God for his grace and mercy and trust that Kevin is resting in His arms.

We know Kevin touched many lives and he wanted to leave a legacy - a hope that others would see and understand the life-destroying power of alcohol and drugs. We too, hope that his life’s message will help others make every attempt to turn away from this destructive lifestyle, so that the chains of addiction not destroy more lives.

Kevin is survived by his parents, Bruce and Jan, his brothers, Austin and Cody and his sister Josie (Morgan).

We will be honouring and celebrating Kevin’s life at Brentview Baptist Church, 3512 Charleswood Drive NW, Calgary (across from London Drugs) on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 1:00 pm
